Small towns across the United States often have hidden gems, and one small town is renovating in hopes of revitalizing. Laurel, Mississippi (pop. 18,978) is drawing visitors with new businesses while staying true to stalwarts of the community.
Located 90-miles southeast of Jackson, Laurel is the home of the Lott Furniture Co. – which celebrates its’ 100th anniversary this year. Visitors wooed by southern charm will enjoy browsing in the Laurel Mercantile. And for some regional tastes, stop by the Slowboat Brewing Company and order a pint of Into the Mystic -- a hibiscus infused Belgian beer that pours pink! Soon, the quaint town will also include an art gallery run by painter Amy Luker.
The renewed spirit in Laurel is partially credited to residents Ben and Erin Napier who are committed to renovating historic buildings, homes, and more. This sweet, native Mississippi couple are working with others in the community to restore Laurel one project at a time.
