Thousands of people were recently gathered in Glennville, Georgia for their annual Vidalia Onion Festival! Glennville is the birthplace of Georgia’s official state vegetable.
The weekend marks the biggest, and sweetest, weekend of the year. It also allows celebrating their world-famous crop and puts a shining spotlight on just how much impact the agricultural industry has on this community.
“There’s a lot of economic growth out of it, it’s just an opportune time to come and share this fruit with our neighbors,” Wayne Dasher, Onion Festival Committee.
Dasher tells local news sources that Tattnall County is the largest grower of Vidalia onions, well over 50 percent of the entire crop.
