Greece has detected its first case of African swine fever at a breeding farm this week.
African swine fever is harmless to humans, by extremely deadly in pigs.
The infected pig was found in a small farm in northern Greece according to Agriculture Ministry Officials.
Measures are being taken to prevent the spread of ASF. All farmed pigs and hogs within an area of nearly two miles from the farm were culled. Animals were not allowed to enter or exit areas within a six-mile radius.
Greece produces about a third of its domestic pork consumption and imports the rest.
