A soybean cyst nematode expert discusses their impact, best management options

Soybean cyst nematode is on the spread, infesting 55 new U.S. counties in eleven states and causing an increase in economic losses.

Greg Tylka, with Iowa State University and the SCN Coalition, speaks with RFD-TV’s own Tammi Arender on the current status of the pest, where the biggest infestations are happening, the economic impact, and management options.

“The message is still the same and that is, SCN is spreading. It doesn’t necessarily make soybeans look sick above ground, at least not till it’s in really high numbers, and so the universal message that the SCN Coalition puts out is that all farmers need to sample fields in which soybeans are going to be grown,” Tylka states.
