The Air Force is creating a shortcut to better obtain solar energy

The U.S. Air Force has a stellar idea to beam solar power to Earth from space.

Their research laboratory created a video giving a better representation of the project.

They are essentially trying to find a shortcut around the long convoys and supply lines the military currently uses to keep operating bases juiced up. Convoys and supply lines are enemy targets.

Wind and solar often get blocked by cloudy or windless days, but if the solar panels were in orbit they would have better access to the sun’s rays.

The panels will collect solar energy, convert it into a radio frequency and beam it into a receiving antenna on the ground. It will then convert the radio frequency into power.

The experiment is scheduled to launch in 2024.
