A Missouri man is charged for his part in the largest grain fraud scheme in U.S. history.
Prosecutors say that his signature allowed conventional grain to be sold as certified organic, bringing a higher premium.
Roughly eight years’ worth of sales amounted to more than $140 million dollars. The grain was resold to animal feed producers, and prosecutors say that his cut for brokering the deal was more than $170,000 dollars.
Several other farmers have been charged. The mastermind took his own life.
