This week’s trade talks between the U.S. and UK ended with a new tariff agreement on steel and aluminum.
The two sides met this week in Baltimore. The agreement allows UK products to enter the U.S. tariff free, but it also lifts duties on $500 million worth of U.S. exports, including distilled spirits.
The UK Trade Chief says this week’s talks built on an already great relationship.
“How can we take out trade partnership to the next level, deepening and diversifying what’s already the strongest bilateral relationship on earth with more than $200 billion last year?”
U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai says the deal protects American jobs, but the conversation is not over just yet.
“This is not the end. In fact, this is the start of a very important conversation that will continue in the weeks and months to come.”
The U.S. is slated to travel to the United Kingdom later this spring.
