USDA expands double-cropping insurance to offset shortages caused by Ukrainian war

A new move by the USDA should increase food supply and lower prices while providing projections for farmers to do just that.

The Department is offering double-cropping insurance to more than 1,500 additional counties. These changes include streamlining the insurance application process and removing barriers, like requiring production records.

When it comes to soybeans, double-crop coverage is expanding in 681 counties in the Plains and the Midwest. The hope is producers can plant winter wheat this Fall and follow it with soybeans in the Spring.

Double crop coverage for grain sorghum has also been expanded in 870 counties.
