One of the busiest U.S. seaports, the Port of Oakland, is closed for the third day in a row due to hundreds of truckers picketing gates and blocking drivers from hauling cargo in and out of terminals.
They are protesting a California labor law that makes it harder for companies to classify workers as independent contractors. If it goes into effect, truckers could see hefty costs that will slash their earnings. The protest has grown larger and more disruptive each day, worsening already-existing supply chain issues.
Organizers say actions will continue until the state’s governor agrees to meet with them.
