The White House Office of Management and Budget wants to change how it classifies metro and non-metro counties. A move that could have big implications for Rural America.
Editor of The Daily Yonder with the Center for Rural Strategies, Tim Marema speaks with RFD-TV’s own Janet Adkison on what this revision entails, the impact on rural communities, and how rural groups are responding.
According to Marema, “The OMB intends for this definition to just be a statistical marker, but overtime over the past 70 years it’s been in effect, other agencies have adopted it to help them define how they target both metro and rural programs. So, some funding is tied to whether you’re a non-metro or metro county, and that in particular has rural leaders and small metro leaders concerned.”
