The Farm Worker Modernization Act advances through the House Judiciary Committee.

The bill proposes ways to simplify the H2A application process, cap wages, and raise funding for USDA programs that support housing for workers, and it creates a program for farmer workers to earn legal status in the U.S. The legislation now heads to the full House for a vote.

The American Farm Bureau says the bill leaves out key amendments for fair wage rates and solving workplace grievances.

AFBF says: “While welcome, these changes, unfortunately, fall short of assuring that American producers will be able to keep their farms going.”
