The Judds are being honored with a star on the world’s most famous walkway, The Hollywood Walk of Fame. The blockbuster mother-daughter country music duo has five Grammy Awards, nine CMA awards, and seven ACM awards to their credit.
“After 37 years, I still find myself amazed! What a journey it has been so far. Thankful to still be included,” Wynonna Judd remarked. Naomi Judd recollected, “Many years ago, before moving to Nashville, we lived in Hollywood. It was a very hard time. I could barely pay the rent and keep food on the table for Ashley, Wynonna and myself. Walking down Hollywood Boulevard, and seeing those stars under my feet, it just never occurred to me that our names would one day be on a Star with all of those famous people. It’s surreal to even imagine it now. I’m thrilled that we have been given such amazing recognition.”
Other entertainers receiving the same honor this year include Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott, Trisha Yearwood, Nick Cannon, Courteney Cox, and Zac Efron.
With their acoustic-heavy sound and distinctive harmonies, The Judds dominated the country charts in the 80s, with 20 Top 10 hits (including 14 that reached No. 1) and 20 million albums sold. Originally from Ashland, KY, the duo were signed to an RCA contract in 1983 following a guest appearance on The Ralph Emery Show.
An all-too-soon farewell tour followed Naomi’s hepatitis C diagnosis in 1991, but Wynonna subsequently launched a very successful solo career. (Naomi has since won out against the disease, and has also enjoyed the spotlight in more recent years as a New York Times Best Selling Author, sought-after motivational speaker, and actress.)
As this latest honor demonstrates, The Judds, one of the most successful acts in country music history, have cemented an enduring legacy which continues to inspire millions of fans.
