According to the USDA Crop Report, 28% of Texas corn acreage has been planted compared to the five year average of only 10%. It is also reported that 25% of their wheat has been headed, which may lead to less yield potential. This early movement by Texas is a result as an early spring hits the southern United States.
Brad Rippey, a meteorologist with the USDA, says that this early spring will lead to heavy storms for the south, which means flooding for some areas.
