A combination of tight soybean supplies and increased renewable fuel demand could encourage more soybean planted acres in the new year.
Cobank analyst Tanner Ehmke says some of the acres will come out of corn, wheat, sunflowers, and canola, and he expects the acreage shifts in the Northern Plains and the Corn Belt.
Ultimately, though, the decision will come down to margins. It is important to remember that canola has been approved for renewable diesel use, too.
