Third La Nina may have a big impact on the Mississippi River and winter wheat

We know the third La Nina is coming this winter.
In some parts of the nation, wetter weather is expected and it could bring relief to the mighty Mississippi.

USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey states, “There is some promise that eventually we will improve run-off into the Mississippi Basin based on snow and rain expected to fall across parts of the Midwest and the north.”

He also shares how the upcoming weather could impact winter wheat production: “Prospects are certainly improving for northwestern winter wheat over the last few days and we expect that to continue for the next few weeks and perhaps all the way through the winter... We may start seeing some relief across the northern plains but some of the biggest winter wheat production areas across the central and southern Great Plains could potentially remain very dry into the spring.”
