According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the driver of a trailer carrying five horses lost control of their vehicle at around 2:45 a.m. which resulted in the death of the horses. It is not known if the horses had to be euthanized because of injuries or if they died at the scene.

The other two horses were rescued by the Minneapolis Mounted Police who were able to get the other 2,000-pound horses into an enclosed trailer. Both horses will need veterinary care, but are expected to make a full recovery, according to the Minneapolis Mounted Police Foundation.
