Tuesday marks 19 years since the tragic death of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, who died on the last lap of the Daytona 500.
The legendary driver won seven NASCAR Cup titles in his career which ties him for the most all-time with Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson.
Since Earnhardt’s tragic death, NASCAR has made several safety improvements and no Cup driver has died during competition since.
Last night at the Daytona 500 Ryan Newman was seriously injured moments before crossing the finish line in a crash. An update released Monday night stated that Newman is in serious condition, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
