Union demands Tyson temporarily close Tennessee plant after COVID-19 spike

WTVF News reports employees at the Tyson Chicken plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee are demanding the company temporarily shut down the plant.

There are approximately 120 cases that make up the cluster linked to the plant which employs around 1,600 people. Tyson officials at the plant are following guidelines put in place by the Metro Public Health Department, the Tennessee Department of Health, and the USDA.

The union states that 79 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 with some community spread cases related to the plant.

As of now, the plant remains open and in operation.
