Union representing meatpacking workers wants hazard pay reinstated, more PPE

A union representing food industry workers wants hazard pay reinstated.

United Food and Commercial Workers International Union president Marc Perrone says that they have lost almost 300 of their members to coronavirus and almost 30,000 have become sick. They also want more testing, PPEs and enforcement on mask mandates.

Meanwhile, UFCW Local No. 7 filed complaints against the JBS plant in Greeley, Colorado. The accusations reported to OSHA say that social distancing measures are not being observed, management is not wearing PPE, and COVID-19 testing is not available.

Another union representing Latin American citizens says that the changes at a Springdale, Arkansas Tyson plant are acceptable. They say that the company is making significant changes and investments to improve worker safety and secure America’s food supply.
