Since its creation in April, USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program has contracted with 200 produce distributors, delivering more than 97 million boxes.
Growers are now highlighting the need to continue the program beyond the pandemic.
Mollie Van Lieu, with the United Fresh Produce Association, spoke with RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison on the benefits of the program and why they are wanting to extend the program.
“This program has been extraordinary for the fresh produce supply chain... It’s been an imperfect program... there’s definitely ways in which it can be improved, but it has been vital in supporting the fresh produce supply chain with the closures of restaurants and schools, and also, the dramatic increase in food insecure people,” she said.
