The USDA estimates there were 2.023 million farms in the US in 2019, down 3% from 2014. The amount of farmland fell by 1.3% during that same five-year period.

There has been an increase of 400 farms in the sales range of $100,000 to $500,000 a year since 2014, but the number of both smaller and larger farms declined.

Although a quarter of the US farmland is operated by 4% of farms making over $1 Million in sales, half of US farms sell less than $10,000 in products. The smallest US farm average 81 acres while the largest overage 2,910 acres.
