USDA faces lawsuit over poultry practices, again (2020)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) faces a lawsuit for failing to require humane poultry handling at slaughter facilities.

The Animal Welfare Institute and Farm Sanctuary claim the actions resulted in contaminated products that violated the Poultry Products Inspection Act.

The plaintiffs want the USDA’s Food and Safety Inspection Service to develop regulations covering poultry handling through slaughter. This is the third time in the last few weeks that the USDA has been sued over poultry practices.
