USDA is putting a halt on mandatory radio frequency ear tags in cattle.
The Department says that it has reviewed nearly a thousand public comments. Last summer, it gave notice that RFID tags would be the official ear tag for use in interstate movement of cattle. While the notice will not be finalized, USDA says that it still believes the tags are the greatest protection against the spread of animal disease.
R-CALF USA calls it a temporary win for producers, who will not be threatened by a costly mandate for now.
