The USMCA is making its way through committees in Canada’s House of Commons.
The bill must make it through the Standing Committee on International Trade to move forward. However, just like when the USMCA went through Washington, other committees want to look at the content themselves.
The Standing Committee on Agriculture has heard testimony from the dairy sector, grain growers and the Produce Marketing Association.
“Overall I think we are very pleased with how it (USMCA) has developed,” said Jane Proctor, the VP for Policy at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association. “We really see this as a trilateral agreement that is going to benefit the industry.”
The bills still need to get out of committees before the entire house can vote on it but the Canadian Senate has already introduced a measure to have their committees look at the bill before it passes in the house.
