NASHVILLE, TENN. (RFD NEWS) —Tune in to RFD-TV Saturday, August 29, as the Grand Ole Opry honors longtime member Dolly Parton and celebrates the music, memories and unmistakable spirit she shared with generations of country music fans.
Dolly’s relationship with the Grand Ole Opry began in 1959, when Johnny Cash introduced the 13-year-old singer as “a little girl from East Tennessee.” She performed George Jones’ “You Gotta Be My Baby” that night and earned three encores—an early glimpse of the remarkable career ahead.
Dolly became an official Opry member in 1969, fulfilling a childhood dream. Over the decades that followed, she performed on the Opry more than 100 times and remained an important part of the Opry family.
This Saturday, the Opry will remember Dolly through her music and special moments from her life and career. Most of the evening’s scheduled artists will perform a Dolly song.
Scheduled performers include Carly Pearce, Channing Wilson, Belle Frantz, Kathy Mattea, Molly Tuttle, Dan Tyminski, T. Graham Brown and the Opry Square Dancers.
Dolly’s impact reached far beyond the stage. Her Imagination Library has provided more than 300 million free books to children, and a portion of ticket sales from Saturday’s show will benefit the program.
