Western Kansas farmer describes his fields as a desert

Despite recent rain and snow across a good portion of the U.S., farmers in parts of the Great Plains are not so lucky.

A Western Kansas producer tells Brownfield Ag News his land is “like a desert.” He says he has gotten just 5.5 inches of precipitation in 14 months. His water gauge read about 0.5 hundredths after the latest snowstorm, which is not enough for soil recharge.

He says his biggest fear going into spring are impacts from wind in these dry conditions.
