Why is there an overabundance of hides ending up in landfills?

There is currently an overabundance of cattle hides ending up in landfills. This is due to a lack of demand and an increased use of fake leather, which is primarily made of plastic.

While the fashion and automotive industry could turn the trend around, that has yet to be the case.

Leather and Hide Council of America President, Steve Sothmann spoke with RFD-TV’s own Suzanne Alexander about the current state of the leather market, the environmental impact of synthetic leather, and if there is a way for entrepreneurs to capitalize on hide availability.
