A lot is happening on Capitol Hill this week, and lawmakers are still trying to keep Farm Bill talks front and center.
Congress has until the end of September to get a new Farm Bill passed or again extend the 2018 legislation, but that is just weeks before the election. House and Senate ag leaders remain hopeful a new Farm Bill can get passed before then but nutrition and conservation are proving to be major sticking points.
House Ag Committee Chair GT Thompson is calling on the process to be bi-partisan. In the Senate, Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow is hopeful it can make the deadline but says she will not compromise on issues like SNAP.
