Tragedy in eastern South Dakota as 27-year-old Christopher Bauman died in a grain bin accident on Monday, KSOO News reports.
Emergency crews were called to rural Elkton, South Dakota, on a report of a person being trapped inside a grain bin full of corn.
“Sections of the grain bin were removed to empty the corn from the bin. 27-year-old Christopher Robert Bauman was found deceased inside of the grain bin,” local authorities said in a press release.
Bauman was augering corn from the bin, but it is unknown why he entered the grain bin.
This is the seventh-grain bin death in the last few months in the upper Midwest states according to the Aberdeen American News.
This week was dubbed “Grain Bin Safety Week” by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue.
