‘A true champion for American farmers and ranchers': Long-time House Ag Committee member dies

Former U.S. Congressman and long-time ranking member of the House Ag Committee Charles Stenholm has died at 84.

Former U.S. Congressman and long-time ranking member of the House Ag Committee, Charles Stenholm, has died at 84.

His many accomplishments in his 26-year tenure include:

  • Formulating legislation to aid the Farm Credit System in the 1980s farm crisis.
  • Assisting in reorganizing the USDA during the Clinton Administration.
  • Playing a significant role in reforming the federal crop insurance system.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack called him a true champion for American farmers and ranchers.
