It’s National Dairy Month! Let’s meet this week’s American Farm Family.
Raising quality registered Holsteins is a shared passion for the Lueking family in southern Illinois. However, they raise four types of cattle across their operation, including Brown Swiss, Guernsey and Ayrshires.
“At 1:30 a.m., we start milking cows. We are a family farm, so I think that it’s super important that people realize that we’re literally all in this together -- all the time, 24/7, all year,” said Doug Lueking. “We’re always ready to help each other out to make our animals better. I’m fortunate enough that my kids love it, and I think they love it because they see how much I enjoy, you know, so it kind of rubs off on them.”
