CA Senators want a date to phase out gas-powered cars

California’s two Senators are urging President Biden to set a date to phase out gas-powered vehicles.

Senators Alex Padilla and Dianne Feinstein sent a letter asking Biden to follow California’s lead of setting a date of 2035 for zero emissions. They pointed to a deal California made with large auto-makers, that fall between requirements set by the Obama and Trump administrations.

The President has declined to set a specific date but has said that his administration would replace the federal government’s fleet with electric vehicles.

The Center for Biological Diversity estimates California’s deal will improve fuel economy by nearly 4 percent.
