Cardio Drumming Keeps Tennesseans Moving

UT Extension’s cardio drumming classes help older adults stay active and engaged.

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (RFD News) — One of the best ways to improve your health is to stay active, and UT Extension is helping Tennesseans do just that through programs that combine exercise with social connection.

Cardio drumming is one of the programs being offered and is a high-energy workout designed to relieve stress through music and physical activity.

University of Tennessee Extension Agent Crystal Blankenship said the class provides a full-body workout and is especially beneficial for older adults because it can be done while sitting or standing.

Participants say the program offers more than physical benefits. For many, the weekly class provides an opportunity to connect with friends and improve their overall well-being.

Cardio drumming was developed in Germany in the early 2000s by Carrie Ekins, whose “Drums Alive” program helped inspire what is now known as cardio drumming.
