Corn groups back Sec. Vilsack’s decision to continue pressing Mexico on GMO corn ban

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack will meet again with Mexican officials today over the country’s proposed ban on GMO corn.

It comes after a meeting last month that led Mexican leaders to push their proposed ban back to 2025, but he says if they do not drop the ban altogether, he will look to file a trade dispute with the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Groups like the Nebraska Corn Growers Association say they are encouraged by the dialogue between the two countries, adding Mexico is a valuable trading partner.
