Department of Justice is calling for more enforcement in the protein meat industries

The Department of Justice is calling for more effective enforcement in the animal protein industry. It comes after several anti-trust cases have made their way into federal courts.

Division Deputy Assistant Attorney General Michael Kades says he is frustrated over the need to try cases he says should be evident. He points to four cases recently with poultry companies over allegations they collaborated on decisions around worker pay.

There have also been several cases of alleged price fixing over the years. Just recently, settlements from Pilgrims Pride and Tyson Foods reached more than $250 million.
