Beef Month Spotlight: Dr. Temple Grandin Highlights Industry Progress in Low-Stress Livestock Handling

Moly Manufacturing welcomed renowned cattle expert, Dr. Temple Grandin, as the keynote speaker for its “Beef and Greet” livestock industry event.

LORRAINE, Kan. (RFD News) — At the Moly Manufacturing Beef and Greet celebration, one of the livestock industry’s most recognized voices shared her perspective on how cattle handling practices have evolved over the decades.

Dr. Temple Grandin, a renowned animal behaviorist and professor known for designing humane livestock handling facilities, served as the event’s keynote speaker.

Grandin says the cattle industry has made major progress over the last 50 years, particularly through increased emphasis on low-stress livestock handling and producer education.

“I’m really pleased to see how a lot of the rough stuff has stopped, all the emphasis on low stress handling is really important, and that’s a place where there’s been some great improvements.”

Grandin says producers still need to focus on basic cattle-handling principles because excited cattle can take significant time to calm down. She says the best approach when working cattle is to avoid unnecessary stress in the first place.
