Eradication efforts have begun on the giant African land snails currently invading part of Florida.
More than 1,000 snails are already collected in the quarantine area in Pasco County, North of Tampa. Florida has dealt with the snails twice in the past, including a 10-year effort and Miami-Dade to get rid of 170,000 of them.
These snails pose a major threat to agriculture. They can eat 500 different plant types, including peanuts, beans, cucumbers, and melons. They can also spread diseases to humans.
