Europe Eases Restrictions on Gene Edited Crops

Cibus CEO Craig Wichner says the changes could have far-reaching impacts for farmers, seed companies and global markets.

Marin, Calif. (RFD News) — The European Union Parliament is removing decades-long restrictions on planting gene-edited crops, opening the door for farmers across the region to use the same type of modern seed technology available in the United States.

Cibus CEO Craig Wichner joined us on Monday’s Market Day Report to discuss the changes.

In his conversation with RFD News, Wichner discussed how the vote could impact European farmers, the global seed industry and the broader agricultural market.

He also explained how precision breeding could help address challenges such as fertilizer costs and shared updates on Farmland LP, the agricultural real estate company he founded.
