Frostbite’s effect on bull fertility

Last month’s extreme weather might have reduced your bull’s fertility.

Veterinarians say that you should check the animal’s scrotum for frostbite as soon as possible to ensure reproductive efficiency. Frostbite is apparent a few days after freezing in the form of swelling and inflammation.

It will directly affect sperm that are maturing and can even cause permanent sterility.

Oklahoma State University Extension recommends having a soundness exam 30 to 60 days before the start of breeding season.
