Georgia Sweet Corn Growers Harvest Strong Yields After Early Freeze

Higher production costs remain a challenge, but growers say recent H-2A changes provide some labor relief.

BRINSON, GA (Farm Monitor) — Sweet corn harvest is underway in Southwest Georgia, where more than 80 percent of the state’s crop is grown.

Farmer Glenn Heard says the crop has recovered well from an early freeze and is producing strong yields, though higher input costs and insect pressure continue to challenge growers.

However, Heard says recent changes to the H-2A visa program have helped ease some labor costs.
