Washington state has reported its first commercial case of High Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
Until now, cases had only been reported in backyard flocks in the state. It is unclear how many birds were lost, but officials say a large number of chickens in the same barn suddenly died.
In Tennessee, health officials launched a new service to help bird owners keep up-to-date on the latest threats. It is an email notification system called “The Word On Birds.” Flock owners can sign up for important updates regarding poultry health in Tennessee, including new HPAI detections, changes to movement or sales requirements, and more.
As of now, HPAI has infected nearly 55 million U.S. birds.
