Food supply does not get much more local than it is on the Iowa State University campus. Starting this fall, the University will serve campus-raised turkeys to students in the dining halls.
The first flock of turkeys raised at the school was recently sent out for processing and will make 7,000 lbs of oven-roasted turkey breast ready for dinner. The University’s Animal Science Department says it is a win-win situation that will help increase awareness and educate students on where their food comes from.
