Middle Tennessee celebrates National Farmers Market Week!

It’s National Farmers Market Week! Local farmers and consumers across the U.S. are celebrating the growth, impact, and vital role of farmers markets in America’s food supply chain.

That includes local farmers in Middle Tennessee who set up shop near their operations, practically selling their fruits and veggies straight from the field.

One such market is called Hancock Family Farms, in Springfield, Tenn., owned and operated by Jodi and Matthew Hancock. They grow and sell everything from peaches to corn, as well as offering customers some value-added products like canned items and bread made by the local Amish community.

From little shops like Hancock Farm Farms to neighborhood markets that provide fresh produce to those who live in rural places—some often described as “food deserts"—these little pieces of Americana not only offer customers nutrient-dense food but also a place of community where folks can come together and meet their neighbors and local farmers.
