Mississippi State Veterinarian Weighs In On Deadly H7N9 Strain Detected On A Poultry Farm

A strain of the deadly H7N9 bird flu virus has been found at a Mississippi poultry farm, leading to the culling of nearly 50,000 birds. It is the first detection in eight years and is different from the strain we have been covering since 2022.

Mississippi State Veterinarian Dr. Jim Watson spoke with RFD-TV’s own Suzanne Alexander on how this differs from H5N1 and if people can contract this virus.
