NCBA: Electronic ear tags are crucial in protecting against animal diseases
NCBA officials submitted comments on cattle traceability measures proposed by USDA.
The rule would require electronic ear tags for animals 18 months and older for interstate travel. NCBA says traceability measures are crucial, saying an outbreak of a foreign disease like foot-and-mouth would be catastrophic to the cattle industry.
However, they would like to modify some aspects of the rule to strengthen confidential information and limit costs to producers.
