David Brandt was not only a farmer from Ohio known for advocating for no-till but won the hearts of the internet.

The “it ain’t much, but it’s honest work” meme quickly became viral in the 2010s. Users shared the meme and created their own captions.

Retired Ohio State University Associate Professor who collaborated with Brandt on ag extension for three decades, Randall Reeder, says David got “a lot of joy after seeing the meme and seeing how it exploded.”

Brandt won several awards for his conservation practices, including the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award, and Ohio Agriculture’s Man of the Year, and was also the former president of the Ohio No-Till Council.

Brandt passed away on Sunday, May 21st after sustaining injuries in a car crash.
