Ohio Goat Gives Birth to Rare Set of Quadruplets

The uncommon delivery has kept one farmer busy caring for four newborn kids at once.

MARION COUNTY, Ohio (OhioAgNet) — A rare birth on one Ohio farm is turning heads after a goat welcomed an unusual set of quadruplets.

While Mikayala Welch says she is excited to see her herd grow, caring for four newborns has also come with extra work and long nights.

“The first night I was up in the middle of the night, coming out, making sure they were all latching. The last two were a little bit smaller than the first two and so they were having a little bit harder time.”

Welch says she has been bottle-feeding two of the babies while the mother goat nurses the other two, creating what she describes as a team effort between her and the doe.

Despite the extra work, Welch says she has already decided she plans to keep one of the quadruplets herself.

According to industry estimates, only about one in every 10,000 goats will give birth to quadruplets.
