Pork producers are preparing for a spike in cases of Poor Sign Reproduction and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS). This is despite fairly low numbers most of the year.
Swine Health Information Center Director Paul Sundberg says now is the usual PRRS season, and it continues to be relatively low but he is expecting a spike. He tells Brownfield Ag News infections on wean-to-finish sites are climbing.
The breeding herds follow by one to two months in their spikes so now they are preparing for cases. He says the hotspots usually include Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska.
