Rural Health Matters: CDC Responds to Ebola Outbreak in Africa

Dr. Jeffrey Gold says health officials continue monitoring outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

OMAHA, NE. (Rural Health Matters) — The CDC is responding to an outbreak of Ebola impacting remote areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

Dr. Jeffrey Gold, President of the University of Nebraska, joined us on Wednesday’s Rural Health Matters to break down what people should know about the infectious disease and ongoing response efforts.

In his conversation with RFD News, Gold discussed the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s longtime role in treating Ebola and whether Americans should be concerned about the current outbreak.

Gold also weighed in on whether Nebraska could once again host Ebola patients as part of future response efforts.

The conversation additionally focused on vaccine development, efforts to slow the spread in affected countries, and why Ebola outbreaks continue resurfacing every few years.
