Sec. Tom Vilsack talks climate at Aspen Ideas plenary session

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has been in Florida to participate in a session with Aspen Ideas. He was joined by policymakers, scientists, and local leaders to engage the public on addressing climate change.

He promoted the Department’s 10-year wildfire crisis strategy as well as partnerships for climate-smart commodities.

“We have addressed 21 priority landscapes in which we are investing almost a billion dollars over the course of the next several years, utilizing a variety of technologies and techniques to try to begin the process of managing those forests to reduce the risk of wildfire. We’re excited about the opportunity to really focus on fire sheds that we have identified are at highest risk.”’

While there, Vilsack spoke about the importance of making rural America a circular economy by keeping wealth and opportunities right here at home.
